What's Your Dream?

One of my favorite conversations to have with people is about what they want out of life. I like to ask because their responses often inspire me to dream bigger. In some cases, when someone has few dreams or goals, I am quietly reminded to never stop dreaming.

I recently asked someone that question: "What do you want out of life?" They initially responded that they hadn’t thought about it much. Then they gave a simple, somewhat generic answer. Something about finding a job they like, maybe getting married, possibly children, and maybe travel a little once they retire.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. Everyone is free to dream as big or as small as they want. But I found myself completely taken aback by what I perceived as a lack of passion, planning, dreaming, and enthusiasm about what can be achieved by each of us. This person is beyond brilliant, funny, kind, athletic, and charismatic.

I can't help it. I want everyone to dream big dreams, make huge plans, set gigantic goals. It makes me wonder: have they never been shown what’s possible? Are they afraid of failure? Do they feel ill-equipped or incapable of reaching those dreams? It’s hard to say, as I am not in their head.

One very important part of having big goals and dreams, in my opinion, is saying them out loud. Whether it’s to your friends, your family, your spouse, or to yourself in the mirror… say them out loud and never let anyone tell you that they are out of your reach.

Shout it from a mountain top! (Is your big dream/goal to actually climb to a mountain top!)

Some of my goals and dreams are:

  1. Positively affect the lives of everyone with whom I come in contact.
  2. Speak, travel, and write.
  3. Educate women about intelligent methods of nutrition, training, and lifestyle.
  4. Teach women how to love themselves and their bodies, no matter how “imperfect,” but not settling for less than they are capable of achieving.
  5. Change the world of women’s fitness, by making it about strength and empowerment instead of about our weight on the scale and shame about our bodies.
  6. Get published.
  7. Become a millionaire.
  8. Continue learning, evolving, and honing my craft.
  9. Be super effective with my time so I have plenty of free time to do whatever I’d like.
  10. Help others reach their goals and dreams.
  11. if the time is right, and only if it is the right person, get married and (possibly) have babies, and be an amazing wife and mother.
