Our strength and success starts from within. “Success” can show up in a number of ways, but regardless of the accomplishment (something tangible like a goal or intangible, like a perspective) it all starts with the mind.
As Girls Gone Strong, we believe mindset is one of your most powerful assets along the journey. Personally, I love keeping up with my mindset work as I’ve seen first hand it’s direct influence on perspective, attitude and action. In fact, sometimes its the simple shift in perspective that can bring instant comfort to a challenging moment.
Here’s a personal example:
I’ve recently been struck by cupid. Yup, bow and arrow, the sweet high, the whole bit. As blissful as that can be, when we let our guard down, we allow vulnerability in and sometimes vulnerability comes with the side effect of fear. It’s important to catch fear early though before it has a chance to have it’s way with us. We can do this by knowing what fear feels like and where it’s coming from. More often than not, our fears are rooted in a worry that is completely hypothetical within our mind. A lot of times, it’s the fear of failure or fear of loss that holds us back from a calm place or the true pursuit of what we want. As I caught myself in a moment the other day, I called on a friend for perspective and she said:
“Trust. Trust that no matter what happens in his life, which may have a direct effect on you, trust that it is creating exactly what you need to go through (at that time) as well.”
That was enough to clear my mind of hypotheticals. In reality, all was safe in the present moment and whatever comes will be as needed. It was incredibly helpful to move past the moment and more often than not, thats exactly what mindset does, it helps us move through things one moment at a time.
Regardless of the area (goals, career, health, family, love, body image, etc etc), mindset really can block us or help us. Everyday I pay attention to various messages, absorb some and bookmark the ones I find most valuable. I’ve been receiving messages lately from others asking for places to look, so below are a few of my older and more recent favorites. Please enjoy!

You’ll find so many posts in the archives of GGS.com that highlight mindset, even within our GGS Spotlights you’ll find lessons and perspective shared from other women around the GGS community. For a quick click though, here are just a few of my past posts on mindset:
Some twitter accounts I enjoy for a positive gem here and there are:
If you want to spend a little time reading, check out:
- Journey to the Heart by Melody Beattie – One of my favorites. It’s a daily read and a small commitment in time for a big return in reinforcing perspective daily.
- Yamas and Niyamas – Deborah Adele (Sharing ten ethical guidelines foundational to skillful, healthy living. The first five are guiding personal conduct towards others, the second five are observances and how you are with yourself).
- The Four Agreements – Don Miguel Ruiz (Be impeccable with your word. Don’t take anything personally. Don’t make assumptions. Always do your best.)
There are countless youtube videos we can watch for inspiration, mindset, etc. Two that hit home which I often revisit are:
- “The only disability in life is a bad attitude” – a young man, with an amazing perspective, who wrote to the Baltimore Ravens just before Super Bowl XLVII
- “The Most Motivating Video For Success” – a compilation of inspiring legends with a relentless pursuit of passion and hard work
My Nana used to say, “life doesn’t get easier, you just get better at handling it.” Oh, was she right! Perhaps, just as you would make a 30 day commitment to a training or nutrition challenge, commitment yourself to 30 days of mindset. Pay attention to your thoughts that come and go. Pay attention to where they stem from, how they influence your thoughts, your feelings, your actions. See if you can catch negative thoughts and make an effort to quiet them via a perspective of gratitude, trust or restoring inspiration. It takes work, but it’s worth it! See what shifts you can create in your mind and how they directly influence your life one moment at a time.
