Sisterhood of the Non-Traveling Workout Pants (Because One Size Does Not Fit ALL!)

 We all have one.

That favorite pair of gym pants that we wish we didn’t have to wash, because we want to wear them for every single workout.

C’mon, you know you have a pair in mind! It’s that pair of leggings that just makes your booty look superb, moves with your body and fits like a glove. And since we all have different body types, it can be tough to find that perfect pair.

So just for fun, we put together a compilation of our favorite pants, to either help you find the pair you’ve been looking for, or give you something to do while you’re pretending to work on a friday afternoon.

Don’t forget, today is the last day to save 15 % on GGS apparel. Just use the promo code GGSTRONG and pick up a pair of GGS sweatpants. Little tip: the pants are supah dupah long, so if you’re a shorty like a few of us are, go for the kids version!

Girls Gone Strong Favorite Workout Pants

NEGHAR

Lululemon Wunder Under Crops

I am completely obsessed with Lululemon.

On any given day I will be wearing head to toe Lulu-literally, from my headband to my socks. Even my gym bag, yoga mat and carrying strap are from Lulu! (I told you-OBSESSED).

My favorite pair of workout pants is the wunder under crops. I’m just under 5’2”, so the crop really fits more like an ankle pant for me, but I appreciate that they make a version that won’t bunch up a ton at the bottom. Although Lululemon will hem your pants for free, I never want to go without a pair of my precious leggings while they’re being altered.

I also love what they do for my butt and legs. I always feel my best-no matter how bloated and puffy I might be that day. I have at least 10 pairs of wunder under crops, all in different colors and patterns. I will say that you want to be careful with which colors you buy because some are not as forgiving as others. For that reason, I suggest always going into the store to try them on-but once you find a pair you like, get two! Lululemon changes their inventory so often, so the chances are that unless it’s a basic black legging, you won’t see it again after a few weeks.

I wear my crops with flats, a cute tee and a denim jacket just as much as I do with a coordinating Lulu tank at the gym. They are super versatile and High quality. And even though they are a bit pricey, you get a discount if you’re a trainer (yay!).

Vintage Adidas

I’m not gonna lie – I do not like shopping for clothes. It’s something I do on an as needed basis and not for enjoyment. In fact, my favorite workout pants are over 10 years old; I think they’re 12 years old, actually. Yep, I’ve had my favorite pair of workouts pants since high school, and they’re still in one piece. These Adidas pants have been with me through some brutal workouts and a lot of personal records. I love these pants because they don’t restrict my movement so I can squat and deadlift without having to worry about blowing a hole in my pants.

I wore them in my most recent squat workout where I did a brutal set of 30 reps.

And I can’t forget having these on when I set a huge personal record of deadlifting 300 pounds for a triple.

Hopefully I’ll continue to set personal records with these pants for another 12 years.

MOLLY

Nike Dri-Fit Capris

I love these workout pants because they are super flattering for the booty. They are tight enough that they don’t move around and loose enough that they don’t squeeze your waist in an unflattering way.  I generally like a foldover yoga pant look, but since I got these several months ago, I find myself wearing them way more often than my other pants.  I don’t love the way they look with just a sports bra (too high-waisted) but they look great with a mid-length to long tank top.

Lululemon Wunder Under Sparkle Pants

I blame Neghar for this.
She took me to Lululemon (Baltimore Harbor East) a few weeks ago and has possibly started an addiction. I got my very first pair of wunder unders there and they fit so well! They’re classic black with a subtle, yet fun detail of sparkle and versatile whether I’m practicing yoga, training clients and even a night out with a cute pair of boots. Tucked into my grey Frye cowboy boots, they dress up easily and are my go-to leggings.

Nike Legend Tight Fit

I am extremely picky about my workout gear. I live by the phrase, “Look good, play good” so I insist that my training garb be really cute and ultra flattering. However, I train consistently and very hard – I can’t be tuggin’ on my britches when I’m pushing the Prowler or pulling a heavy deadlift! My favorite training pants that are not only cute and flattering, but also stand up to some serious gym time and hundreds of washings are Nike Legend Tight Fit. They come in crops or full length, a few great colors, and the best part is that they stay put! No more pulling your pants up after every sprint or constantly having to adjust the waistband!
Oh, and they work magic for those bun-buns!

I know you all have different body types, but some girls that lift weigh more than 200 pounds. It would nice if you included suggestions for us also or make note above the ones that have a wider size range.

Great point, Erin! I am pretty sure all of the pants mentioned should come in a wider size range. Maybe some people can chime in on pants that they like in different sizes?

Erin I know lucy pants go up to size 16/18 and I think Athleta might too?

Erin – try Lululemon – I weigh 220 – and only wear lulu pants – I have a pair of 12′s – and two pair of 10′s! I wear the studio pants – comes in shorts and longs – fantastic for traveling as well, so works great for workout, and on the street….

I’m 248lbs, a size 20-22, apple shaped and 5ft7. I have a short inseam. I’ve had fantastic luck with the old navy compression line. The crops are a good length and the full length is just maybe half an inch too long and is no trouble at all. I order a 2x and they’ve stood up to my 3x a week strength sessions and 2-3x a week cardio and bike rides for the last 3 months and look new. They’ve started to get loose and are no longer compression but still flattering and serviceable and I expect to continue using them until I size down out of them completely. You do have to adjust the waist a bit between sets if you’re apple shaped because that’s just how the fat rolls, ya know? Bonus for being relatively inexpensive.

When you have a 36 inch inseam, it’s gotta be Lululemon. The only company that makes pants long enough for me!

    • http://www.negharfonooni.com Neghar

Agreed! They make those babies so long-which is why I have to hem them :) .

    Also… nice Fitocracy shirt! :)

I have a few that I just keep pulling out of the dryer and putting back into my gym bag or onto my body. I’m loving the Gap Body Capris and my Reebok CrossFit Capris.
