Who created the Women's Coaching Specialist Certification?

Molly Galbraith,
CO-FOUNDER, GIRLS GONE STRONG AND CREATOR OF THE GGS ACADEMY

"When I first started in the fitness industry 21 years ago...

There was very little women-specific coaching education available.

What was available was outdated, not evidence-based, or minimized the challenges that many women face throughout their health, fitness, and nutrition journey.

Given that 67–75% of all people who hire a coach or trainer are women — that’s not OK.

Women deserve better.

So GGS pulled together 20 trailblazing women from 12 fields of study to create this industry-changing Certification.

After enrolling, you'll learn exactly how to empower women to be stronger, healthier, and more confident in their lives and bodies."

Meet the 20 trailblazing women's health experts who developed this Certification Program.

Our 20 world-class women's health professionals come from 12 fields of study, ensuring our curriculum is evidence-based and interdisciplinary.

(In fact, the 3 female co-authors of the PN Certification helped develop this Certification, making it the perfect complement to PN Level 1.)

And what's even more special is our experts’ *process* for creating the curriculum.

Every single chapter was written, reviewed, and edited by 6–10 of the experts listed above.

We asked each expert to challenge one another's ideas and methods and integrate the best available evidence and research with their professional experience so we could create the world’s first and only truly interdisciplinary, evidence-based, practical coaching Certification.

In other words, the women behind this Certification weren’t just “kind of involved”—they dedicated hundreds of hours of wisdom and passion to this project…

… and the result is a one-of-a-kind Certification that stands alone at the top of the industry.

In addition, by creating this Certification, we’ve helped revolutionize communication between industry professionals, resulting in a truly holistic approach to coaching and training women.

Rather than working independently from each other (as is generally the case), our experts worked together, learning how each of their specialties overlaps with one another to create a new standard of coaching and support for women.

Our Curriculum:

Bringing these experts together allowed us to create the industry’s only comprehensive, trusted, and globally relevant Women’s Health Coaching Certification.
No other Certification helps you master the art and science of women-specific coaching, psychology, nutrition, exercise, anatomy and physiology, rest, recovery, and exercise programming from 20 experts spanning 12 fields of study.

And no other Certification helps you navigate so many critical and often-ignored topics like:

  • Disordered eating
  • Emotional eating
  • Restrictive eating
  • Pelvic health & pelvic floor

Our Evidence-Based Approach:

You’ll get all the latest women’s health & wellness research — including over 2000 references in our 600-page textbook!

When we say our Certification is "evidence-based" it doesn't mean it's simply based on the research. It means that our experts review all the best available evidence and integrate it with their 400+ years of practical and clinical experience, while also considering client and patient values for a holistic health approach.

All references are listed at the end of each chapter so they’re super easy to find if you want to do further research, and even more references are included in our online portal materials.

Our Reputation:

Our experts have worked with organizations like:

  • Johns Hopkins
  • Baylor Medical
  • University of Florida
  • Precision Nutrition
  • Yale

And our certification is recommended by industry legends like:

  • Dr. John Berardi
  • Greg Nuckols

  • Dr. John Rusin
  • Renowned Olympic Sprint Coach Stu McMillan

Organizations like NSCA, Perform Better, LifeTime Fitness, Kabuki Strength, Nike, and IDEA Fit trust our experts to educate their coaches and personal trainers working with women. We even have a partnership with Goodlife Fitness, the largest gym chain in Canada, to help educate their trainers.

Our Focus on Psychology:

We recognize that coaching women better is about understanding so much more than just anatomical and physiological differences (though those are also important).

That’s why this Certification dives deep into women-specific, behavior-change psychology and topics that affect a woman’s health, including:

  • Body image struggles
  • Fear of "getting bulky"
  • Feelings of shame
  • Guilt and self-judgment
  • Lack of confidence
  • Self doubt
  • The comparison trap
  • Unrealistic expectations
  • Diet culture and social media
As a coach, you'll want to be prepared to have conversations around these challenging topics to help your clients feel seen, heard, and supported — and our Women’s Coaching Specialist Certification will show you how.

Does this Certification take an integrative approach to women’s health?

Yes, this Certification takes an integrative approach to health—by bringing together 20 world-class experts from 12 fields of study to create a truly evidence-based, interdisciplinary curriculum.

We integrate knowledge from the fields of exercise science, nutrition, psychology, behavior change, pelvic health, and more to ensure coaches receive the highest quality education rooted in research, collaboration, and real-world application.

What are the exams like?

There are 15-question exams at the end of every chapter consisting of both multiple-choice and true/false questions.

Exams are open-book and untimed (on average, they take 15–20 minutes to complete) and are available in your online learning platform whenever you’re ready. There is no final exam.

What grade do I need to pass?

73% or higher is required to pass. Our students average 90% on the exams.

Once you pass your final exam, you’re officially a GGS Certified Women’s Coaching Specialist!

You are given three opportunities to take each exam. If you don’t pass a given exam within three attempts, a small fee unlocks unlimited additional opportunities.

Remember, the GGS Academy offers unlimited support. We'll be there every step of the way. You’ve got this!
